Sometimes, old habits are the hardest to break

We all have bad habits that we just can’t seem to break. In my case, that habit is nail-biting. I’ve been biting my nails for as long as I can remember. It’s such an unattractive habit too and one I’ve tried to break SO many times. I’ve basically tried everything too – applied that nasty tasting nail polish, worn gloves, permitted the reminder slap if caught biting away. Nothing seems to work, my will power is always shattered by my stubborn and persistent nature.

An Unplanned Manicure Changed Everything!

A couple weeks ago, a friend and I went for pedicures. It’s always nice to take some time for ourselves and be pampered! The lady at the salon somehow managed to convince me to get a manicure. It really was absurd to me. Why would I get a manicure if I don’t have any nails?

I’m still not sure how she did it but she managed to make my nails appear clean and pretty. I was so impressed by how they looked. I guess that’s why I can proudly say that I have not bitten my nails since.  Who knew that a simple manicure would be the thing that makes me not want to bite my nails? Sadly, I tragically lost one of my nails to a filing cabinet incident. I was so mad. I was working so hard to keep my nails healthy and let them continue to grow! But I will not be defeated…I have clipped and filed the nail and will give it a chance to grow again! I’m curious to see if I’ll be able to maintain them and maybe finally stop one of the bad habits I’ve had for ages!

The question is why are some habits harder to break than others?

Maggie – I had to start over again. My nails are very weak from biting them for so many years. The manicure helped get me started and then its a matter of just willing yourself not to bite. I think it’s like quitting smoking 🙂 I do recommend finding some sort of nail strengthener and apply it often. I find that if something is on my nails I’m less likely to want to bite them and it will help strengthen the nail which for nail-biters tends to get very brittle and weak. Good luck!! 🙂

That’s great that you stopped! How are you doing now? When you say you had no nails, do you really mean hardly any nails, I barely have over the moons. I don’t think I could get a manicure. Do you think I could have tips? Maggie
