Randy Pausch (1960-2008)

When I read the news of Randy Pausch’s passing I was saddened.I was turned on to Randy Pausch not too long ago. My cousin played me a YouTube video of his “Last Lecture” and I thought to myself…”Wow, this is incredible”. If you haven’t seen it, I urge you to take the time and watch it.

Randy Pausch Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams:

Even though, I was with my father as he fought his losing battle with cancer, I will never truly know what it was like for him to live out his life with a terminal illness. What do you do when a doctor tells you that you have months left to live? Everyone handles life and death differently and until you find yourself down that path you can only guess.

Randy Pausch is a reminder to us all that life doesn’t start when you are dying. He had dreams, like we all do. He hit brick walls, like we all have. He understood that if you give up then you are cheating yourself out of life experiences – and I think that is something we forget far too often. We are better because Randy took his life and shared it with us and although he didn’t intend to, he left us with a very valuable life lesson. Randy reminded us that life is what you make of it…we should spend everyday of it with love, happiness, and passion because there are no guarantees on how much time we have to enjoy it. He told us never to lose sight of our childhood dreams – no matter how old we are. It takes a certain strength, and passion to live your life running into walls but when the time comes for your “last lecture” you can be content knowing you did what you could, you learned something from it and hopefully you made the world a better place doing it.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I have to say I am lucky that I have never lost anyone close to me. I imagine for you and others it was very hard.

I do however try to live my life how I want to, not how others think I should – and it is for this reason I am now in Italy. I always dreamt of living here and thought ‘what am I waiting for?’ so I just bit the bullet and went (well via London first!)

Everyone should follow there dreams as if you forget them I don’t see how you can be really happy…?
