What will Beckham bring to AC Milan?

By now we all know that the rumours about David Beckham making a move (although temporary) to AC Milan are not just whispers in the wind.He made his debut with AC Milan in a friendly game against Hamburg on Tuesday. Now, many news outlets are making their predictions as to whether or not we may see Beckham make his Serie A debut against AS Roma this coming Sunday.

I really enjoy Serie A soccer and I have not completely accepted the idea of Beckham coming to Italy to play. There was a time when Beckham was a great player however, I think over the years he’s lost some steam and is now running on the fumes of his celebrity status to remain one of soccer’s most talked about players. Let’s face it, we hear more about Beckham going out with his wife, Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) and kids for dinner then we do his skills on the pitch. That being said, that could very well be one of the main reasons why a team such as AC Milan would bring in such a highly publicized player. AC Milan thrives on their publicity and its ability to push them into other markets. Please, don’t misinterpret. AC Milan may not be my favourite team, but I still really enjoy watching them play and many of the team’s players are some of the best, in my honest opinion.

I guess I’m on the fence with this one…I don’t want to say that I’m for or against Beckham playing for AC Milan. The team is plagued with some injuries (Gennaro Gattuso, Alessandro Nesta) and this may be exactly what they need to up morale and get things moving in a positive direction.Or it could all just be one big publicity stunt and in that case, mission accomplished.

Yeah I go with the publicity stunt one here, which is smart of them. This really launches them with the international media because even though I don’t follow soccer much, I know enough to know Beckham isn’t all that on the field anymore and Italy has more than enough talent to keep AC Milan afloat during injuries.
