My Italian Life: Two Years

It’s remarkable how much someone’s life can change in two years.  Two years ago I moved to Italy and wasn’t sure what would happen.  I’m back in Toronto for the summer and it has become increasingly clear just how much I’ve changed and grown in the past couple of years.  People often ask me if I miss Toronto.   To most Italians I’m off my rocker for wanting to leave the big city life to live in a small southern Italian city.  I can honestly say that I don’t miss Toronto life.  Sure, there are times when I miss the convenience of 24-hour shopping or the ability to eat many different ethnic dishes but at the end of the day, I am happy with my simple Italian life.

Living in Italy has done so much for me.  I will always miss my family and friends in Toronto but since moving to Italy I can honestly say that I’m happier and content with the decision I made.  I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I moved and never predicted how long I’d be in Italy.  For now, I’m enjoying my new life and trying not to have any expectations because life is always unpredictable regardless of where you are in the world.

Looking forward to another year in Italy with new adventures and incredible memories.

    Congrats on making the move to Italy from Toronto. I hope to make the same move one day too. I totally understand why small town Italy has a draw – Id much rather have that life too. Following your blog with interest!

    I am also coming up on my 2 year anniversary of moving to Italy (from ‘Murika). I have enjoyed reading your blog and will continue to follow you. Every day I’m asked how mentally insane I had to be to move from California to Catania. I love this island and the lifestyle and culture has taken a hold of my heart. I do miss Mexican food though….

      @azzimpher1 Wow, congrats! It takes a lot of courage and passion to move across the globe and I’m glad that life in Italy agrees with you. I know for me personally it has been a real life-changer and I’m so much happier. I also miss the variety of ethnic foods but it makes me appreciate it more. Stay in touch! 🙂

        Well, like anywhere, after one becomes accustomed to a different style of life, the downsides become apparent. Especially here in Sicilia (Northern Africa). However, I’ve found the American lifestyle to put more emphasis on material goods and other supposed necessities that didn’t agree with what I found to be important. Io adoro Sicilia. The people are like caricatures and I’m always entertained! alla prossima!
