Best Italian Christmas Movies to Watch This Holiday Season
I’m not sure what it is about this time of year, but you can feel that festive spark ignite and brighten a little more with each day that brings us closer to Christmas. The days slip into early evenings, the air turns crisp enough to make you tuck your hands into your sleeves or pockets, and the streets begin their slow, magical transformation. Twinkling lights. Festive Christmas markets. And if you’re in Cosenza, the stands serving up our favorite traditional foods, like Cuddruriaddri and Turdilli, are tempting you to stop and savor every bite. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year!
And just like that, without even realizing it, you’re leaning into that cozy feeling. You start craving soft blankets, dense Italian-style hot chocolate topped with whipped cream (or tiny marshmallows), and a sweet, light-hearted Italian Christmas movie to watch that just makes everything feel a little softer.
I’ve watched many Italian Christmas films and movies, and so, I thought I’d share a few of my favourites with you.
My Favourite Italian Christmas Movies to Watch This Holiday Season

Il Peggior Natale della Mia Vita (2012)
If you’re in the mood for laughs and a little chaos, Il Peggior Natale della Mia Vita is an absolute must. The story kicks off with a family and friends reunion at a stunning castle in this Italian Christmas comedy, where everything that could go wrong… does. Pregnancies, big revelations, promises made (and broken), unexpected departures, new arrivals, and all the little disasters that somehow make for the worst Christmas ever. But, even when it seems like everything is falling apart, somehow it all comes together. Because it’s Christmas, and by the end, laughter, chaos, and a little holiday magic win the day.

La Banda dei Babbi Natale (2010)
Christmas in Italy is full of laughs, especially with Aldo, Giovanni, and Giacomo. This beloved comedic trio deliver sheer chaos in the Italian Christmas movie, La Banda dei Babbi Natale. Aldo, a talented cook, sells a precious item that belongs to his girlfriend’s grandmother, and she kicks him out of the house for it. He moves in with Giacomo, a widowed surgeon, while Giovanni juggles his marriage and a secret affair. On Christmas night, the three friends are arrested in an apartment during a suspected robbery. At the police station, Commissioner Irene Bestetti accuses them of belonging to the notorious Christmas Hat Gang. Their attempts to explain how they ended up there lead to one hilarious misadventure after another. This movie is perfect for a holiday night of laugh-out-loud comedy, clever mishaps, and the warmth of a classic Italian comedic team.

Il Primo Natale (2019)
Ficarra e Picone, one of Italy’s most famous comedic duos, deliver holiday laughs with a magical twist in Il Primo Natale. Salvo, an atheist art thief from Palermo, crosses paths with Father Valentino, a devoted priest from Roccadimezzo Sicula, when he attempts to steal a precious relic from the church. Their chase takes an extraordinary turn when Christmas magic transports them back to ancient Palestine, just days before the birth of Jesus. Navigating the Roman Empire under Emperor Augustus and the ruthless Herod, Salvo’s mischief collides with Father Valentino’s faith in hilarious ways, leading to unexpected friendship and a truly heartfelt holiday adventure. This movie is perfect if you are looking for laugh-out-loud moments, historical hijinks, and festive magic.

Odio il Natale (2 Seasons: 2022, 2023) – Netflix Series
I have to admit, I’m a huge fan of Pilar Fogliati, and her performance in Odio il Natale proves exactly why. We follow Gianna as she navigates the holiday season in a whirlwind of funny, awkward, and often desperate attempts to find the “right” man for Christmas dinner. Tired of being the single sibling while her brother and sister settle down, she dives into a series of hilarious misadventures from a philosopher obsessed with global hunger to a fussy carnival-goer. Along the way, Gianna meets a wealthy prosecco producer and a young man barely out of his teens, both of whom challenge her in unexpected ways. Through it all, she grows, gains confidence, and discovers that what we are looking for is sometimes closer than we think.Odio il Natale is perfect for a cozy holiday night filled with funny, chaotic, and heartfelt moments in this Italian Christmas Series on Netflix. I’m kind of sad it stopped at two seasons.
Now cuddle up, and hit play…
