Shopping on Corso Mazzini, Cosenza
Want to do a little bit of shopping in the city of Cosenza? One of the best places to go on a nice day is Corso Mazzini. It has pretty much anything you could possibly want on a shopping trip – restaurants, cafes, stores, tourism agencies, and currency exchange offices. So, when we decided to do a little shopping. Cosenza (specifically Corso Mazzini) was a good place and it’s not too far from our little town of Carpanzano. Cosenza used to be about 45-50 minutes from Carpanzano. However, since the construction of the autostrada a few years ago, it has shortened the distance. Now, making the trip to Cosenza takes anywhere from 25-30 minutes (depending on how fast you like to drive).
Shopping in August
Since temperatures in Italy in August can get pretty high, we opted to go first thing in the morning. Generally that’s when the temperatures were a bit cooler. The reason being, Corso Mazzini is like one big outdoor shopping mall very similar to Toronto’s Yorkville district only much bigger and with fewer cars. Corso Mazzini was restructured so that all traffic would be closed off making it a pedestrian-only area.
As you shop along the Corso Mazzini towards Piazza Bilotti, you will gaze upon a wide range of art sculptures. They make up the “Museo all’aperto Bilotti” or the open-air museum. An art collector named Carlo Bilotti donated all these beautiful sculptures to the city of Cosenza before he passed away in 2006.
Some stores you will find on Corso Mazzini: Zara, Foot Locker, Bata Shoes, Swarovski, Carpisa, and as well as many other stores selling your favourite Italian brands.
If you can, try to visit Corso Mazzini during the week and earlier on in the day because the weekends tend to get very busy with both tourists and locals.

October 7, 2012 at 3:38 amI was in Cosenza this past June for a month visiting family with my mom. Corzo Mazzini changed so much since I was there 30 years ago,, the biggest change being pedestrian only which was lovely and they also have so many great stores and a lot of name brand stores. The temperature was unusually hot in the 40’s for June, especially going into July so shopping in the morning was ideal followed by a coffee and cornetta or gelato.and evenings were great as well. It seemed like the whole city was there at night enjoying the cooler temperature with family and friends. They also have concerts in Kennedy square (Piazza Kennedy) which yes boasts a picture of JFK on a huge billboard above this expensive boutique. I would love to go back to visit with family and visit more sites and maybe this time I will go in the spring.

I think we need to be in Calabria at the same time so we can go out for cornetti in Piano Lago!! I know a couple good places now 😉

Also I’ve been where Carla says to the Centro Commerciale Metropolis in Rende. Bel Ragazzo and I always go there since it’s in doors when the weather is bad!
The air-conditioning when it’s super hot outside isn’t half bad either! 😛
