Palazzo Grisolia: Historical Noble Residence in Cosenza

Palazzo Grisolia is a historical noble residence that dates back to 1809. This cultural gem is privately owned and not generally open to the public. But, it does offer accommodations for those wanting to immerse themselves in the charm and elegance of days past.

On special occasions, the noble residence opens itself up to visitors so they can admire the refined elegance of this historical landmark.

Palazzo Grisolia is located in the old part of Cosenza, in an area known as Giostra Vecchia.

Visitors to Cosenza Vecchia are probably familiar with Corso Telesio, the main artery of the old town which takes you up through the town and its historical squares from Piazza Valdese to the Duomo to Piazza XV Marzo and Villa Vecchia.

However, not many people know about the area known as Giosta Vecchia which is located further up from the Duomo and branches off from Corso Telsio. The name Giostra comes from the ancient horse races that knights (yes, knights!) competed in which took place here.

And, it is in this tucked-away part of the old town that you will find some of the most impressive noble palaces dating back to the 16th century.

So let’s take a look inside the ancient noble residence of Palazzo Grisolia in old Cosenza…

The facade of this 4-story building has an unsuspecting main door with two columns on each side of it which supports the main floor balcony.

As you step through this door, you find yourself standing in a charming courtyard looking up at the noble residence that clearly shows influences of 18th-century Neapolitan architecture.

Today, the residence has all the amenities of a modern home but still preserves and pays homage to its historical roots.
