World Nutella Day 2016 ~ Semifreddo with Nutella
Another year, another World Nutella Day!
Well, not exactly…..this year marks the 10th edition of Nutella Day! It’s pretty incredible how what started as a food blogger and Italy expat/lover blogger event grew into an internationally recognized day!
I’ve enjoyed participating in World Nutella Day over the years. You can check out some of my past contributions here, here, and here. And I continue to get excited every year as I try to come up with something new to whip up with one of my favorite Italian guilty pleasures, Nutella!
So, for Nutella Day’s 10th Anniversary, I’ve decided to try something I’ve never done before – make a semifreddo with Nutella.
Semifreddo is the word used to describe an Italian dessert which is served cold or semi-frozen. The great thing about this recipe is that it’s super easy and doesn’t involve a lot of ingredients.
Here’s what you need:
250 ml of fresh cream
200 gr of Nutella
Disposable aluminum muffin or soufflé cups (the kind you can toss when you are done).
Crushed hazelnuts (or in my case walnuts) for garnishing.
Yup, that’s it!
Here’s what you do:
Take the fresh cream from the fridge and whip it with a mixer until it’s slightly dense.
Then stir in the Nutella. Make sure it’s creamy because if it’s too hard it won’t mix properly with the cream. It should look like a bit like a mousse.
Pour the mixture into the aluminum cups (this will make 5-6 servings) and leave in the freezer for a least 5-6 hours (I left mine overnight).
When you are ready to serve up these delicious Nutella treats, take them from the freezer and let them sit for a couple minutes so that they will loosen up a bit and placed on a plate.
Garnish the tops with whatever you like and eat up!
Leave a comment below if you decide to try this recipe or if you’d like to share your favorite recipe with Nutella. I’d love to hear from you!
Buon Apettito!
