Christmas in Cosenza

It’s Christmas and Cosenza is getting into the Christmas Spirit with these events the whole family will enjoy. Take a look at what’s happening this year!

Christmas Lights

Every year many of the city’s major areas are lit up with Christmas lights. Last year, the theme was Disney –  Corso Mazzini was home to many famous and loved Disney Characters and the highway roundabout was looked over by the wizard from Fantasia. This year there are some great light displays sprinkled along Cosenza’s pedestrian area, Corso Mazzini.

Christmas Market

The Christmas market opened up in Piazza Bilotti at the end of November and will continue through to Christmas. There’s no better way to get into the Christmas spirit than taking a stroll through the stands showcasing Christmas decorations, supplies for your epic Nativity Scene, gift ideas and traditional Christmas treats!

Christmas Cosenza

Cuddruriaddri

This traditional food, a word I’ll never be able to say (believe me I’ve tried….on numerous occasions!),  goes by different names throughout the province of Cosenza, but one thing is certain, they are delicious. Nowadays you can enjoy them all year round but it’s still tradition to make them during the Christmas period. In Cosenza, on the eve of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, it is custom to eat them for dinner.

Museo Multimediale

The Multimedia Museum in the city of Cosenza , located in Piazza Bilotti, will be hosting a special show for the Christmas period entitled “La Magia del Natale” (The Magic of Christmas). From December 15th to January 6th, you can enjoy this multimedia installation dedicated to Christmas. Take a walk through a snowy forest, and wander through the woods that the elves call home. You can also admire a frozen waterfall and visit Santa’s house. Price of admission to this special and whimsical event is just 3 euros.

When I initially commented I seem to have clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now every time a comment is added I receive 4 emails with the same comment. Is there a means you can remove me from that service? Thank you!

I can’t do anything from my end, but at the bottom of the email you receive there should be a link to unsubscribe from comment notifications.

Cool photos – I’m yet to make my own Cuddruriaddri although I had lessons last year. 😉
Christmas has certainly arrived in Cosenza. I’m happy to say that it doesn’t start early in September, like in so many other countries these days.
I love all the lights gracing the city this year and think they’re the best so far – even though there are less side streets decorated this year. Corso Mazzini looks magical at night!

I noticed that some streets didn’t have lights this year. But, this past Thursday or Friday they finally put lights up on the roundabout for the highway! There seem to be a lot of family events this year scattered throughout the city as well. Wish the weather would be better so we can enjoy them more!

I love the dress in lights! I also love cuddruriaddri and I suggest you go to a different town as they go by different (and many, easier) names all over the region. For example, in Reggio, crispelle, in the Locride, zeppole, but they’re irresistible everywhere!

The dress in lights is so whimsical – I absolutely adore it!! Yes, you are right, they have easier names throughout the reason, for example in my dad’s town they are called Grispoli which is SO much easier to say!! haha Hope you have a wonderful holiday season Karen and hope that we can meet next time you are in Calabria! 🙂
